My last post was about starting a Drawing A Day project. I have surprised myself and made it past the One Month mark.
Granted, the drawings are little, and not very complex in subject matter, but what surprises me is that I am doing it and not letting other things get in the way.
After moving from Texas back to Tucson, I hit what can only be described as a “dry patch” in drawing. Oh, I was plenty involved in being creative… keeping a blog for me, and one for the dog, learning about my camera and taking lots of photos and posting them to Flickr, doing some but not too much drawing
I had focused for years on ‘fantasy’ art, having fairies and dragons solely as subject matter, sending art to science fiction conventions around the US. While I thoroughly enjoyed that, and received lots of nice compliments on my work, it became an exercise in keeping the mails well paid, with little or no sales of work at the conventions.
While I’m not a starving artist, losing money is not a profession I want to persue.
So I poured myself into blogging and taking photos, and in a round about way, that has brought me back to drawing. I haven’t abandoned my blogging, but as a lot of you can tell, I am noticeably “absent” from visiting and commenting and posting.
Just think of me at the kitchen table, with my trusty electric pencil sharpener at my side, with a plate of 5…er…4…er…3 Ritz crackers with raspberry preserves on them, busily drawing away.
Leslie
Congratulations on following through with your drawing commitment. I hear you on the surprise at actually doing something like this and not letting it slip through the cracks of the day. Do hope to see you around the blog occasionally again, though!
If you’re going to draw food, you’ll have to either rein in your snacking or draw faster.

Hi, Chile! I’m going to have to draw faster. Or not try to draw things like cookies or cake or…erm…ice cream…or chocolate…or…candy…or
Hi, Jennifer! Never had jam on a Ritz? You have led a deprived childhood!
Get out the jam jar…

Hi Leslie,
I love that you continue to paint! I used to be an amateur artist always playing with new ideas and medias when I was younger. I don’t work right now so I always find myself at home with barely anything to fill up my time. I wanted to put some color/art to my room but didn’t want to spend the money. Since I have so many art supplies here at home, I was thinking I would just paint some different sorts of paintings! Are there any easy/fun things to paint? What have you found yourself often drawing throughout the past?

Hi, Ms Kretacea!
Sorry it’s taken me so long to reply to this. I don’t have a good excuse and won’t give you one of my bad ones.
Depending on what type of art supplies you have on hand, I would concentrate more on what ~color~ art I wanted to make, rather than what subject I wanted to paint or draw.
If you have a frame you like, or a mat already cut, start from there and work backwards. It beats making something you love that then requires expensive custom framing.
If all else fails, draw fruit.

I’m doing a doodle a day, starting Jan 1. Talk about “not complex.” Lots of squiggly lines.
Really love your drawings. They don’t look so simple to me.

Hi Ybonesy!
Your “doodles” are pretty complex! You can’t fool me!
It’s been fun to see how many consecutive days I managed a drawing. Had a few blips on the radar here lately, but still getting some in.
Onward!
