Sometimes I feel as if I have been living under a rock.
I am a person not much interested in drawing things mechanical. If you are at all familiar with my artwork, it avoids man-made objects exclusively. It concentrates on trees, landscapes, fairies and fanciful, whimsical things.
So where does this “new” intense interest in Steampunk come from? And why haven’t I been intrigued by it before now?
None of that matters now, I guess. I have discovered it, and I like it. I like the Craft of the objects. I like the inventiveness and immense creativity.
Here are some links I have pulled together.
Rummage around, and see if you like some of this, too.

I was intrigued by the tags “books,” yet I didn’t know what steamtrunks were.
Have you gone to one of the conventions yet?

Hi eastcoastdweller, I am always amazed when a portal opens for me. I am unreceptive to mechanical stuff, and yet find myself fascinated by Steampuk! Who knew?!
Hello ybonesy, The tag ‘books’ refers to the Jules Verne scifi/fantasy literature. I was also recently directed to Terry Pratchett’s book, Going Postal, which has a Steampunk feel, by Dan, from Not the New Scientist. http://uniquest.blogspot.com/ I saw Pratchett referenced in the links in this post, to my surprise.
I came to ‘Steampunk’ via Boing Boing, through Frozen Toothpaste. http://www.frozentoothpaste.com/ (I do look around, eh?)
I have had the great privilege to be Artist Guest of Honor at a few Scifi conventions. I met Dragon Dronet http://www.renegadeeffects.com/index.htm at Incon In Washington state.
I am thoroughly smitten presently with Datamancer. http://www.datamancer.net/

When I look at something mechanical I might as well be looking at a rock… My brain doesn’t function in that direction, but I love Sci-Fi… This is basically the story of my life.

Jennifer, Yeah! I want one, too! I think that piece really embodies the concept. I get blown away that IT WORKS! Yikes.
Corky, I am un-tech myself, which is why I am surprised by my fascination with this. I think the link Jennifer pointed out created the ‘bridge’ for me. The whole leatherbound, well crafted aspect just lured me. And I can easily relate to “scanner”. And the fun names…

I had no idea what Steampunk was. Learn something new every day. I loved this link: http://www.brassgoggles.co.uk/brassgoggles/. There is something kind of cool about the word Steampunk.
