  1. Hi Leslie, I found it neat that we share the same name, are Irish, and live/d in Texas. I came to your blog via a search for “Leslie S.” I simply wanted to say hello!

  2. Hello Leslie S,
And I bet we are both extraordinarily intelligent and good looking, too! :)
Nice of you to leave a comment. I love coincidences!

  3. Hello Leslie,

Not only a very creatively, talented “dry medium” artist, but also an eloquent, humorous writer… so if the drawing thing doesn’t work for you (haha), you having your writing to fall back on. Just wanted to say wonderful site, wonderful human “hippie” Kris Johnson, Alberta, Canada

  4. Well, hello Kris!
You just made my day, and my head swell, simultaneously.
Thank you for your kind words, and I do hope you come back to see how much mischief I can get into… :)

  5. Hi Leslie,
I’m wondering if I might use your photo of a nighthawk in a nature publication I’m preparing. If so, how should the credit read?
    Thanks, John

  6. Hey John,
I just sent you an email.
If you click on the picture of the nighthawk, it takes you to the blog that owns the photo. You would have to seek permission from them.
Thank you so much for asking!

  7. I have one of your drawings. It’s a fairy in a kitchen with a bunch of tiny fairies cleaning. You have to really study the drawing to discover all the fairies and the details of this picture. I just love it. My daughter bought it at a fantasy convention a few years ago. I would love to know if you made anymore like this one and where I might purchase or view your work. I truely love it.

  10. Wow, Marcus!
No, I was not familiar with van Sandwyck’s art. I am amazed!
When I first looked, I thought I was seeing an old copy of Wind in the Willows that I had somehow missed.
    Aren’t his pictures fabulous!?
Thanks so much, Marcus, for showing this to me!

  11. Hi Leslie,
I bought one of your prints several years ago at a convention. I absolutely loved it but somehow it got lost in one of my many moves since then. I came across the sale slip which had your name, and the name of the print on it, just a few days ago and I was wondering if there was anywhere I could still possibly buy another copy of it. It was called “MIRROR” and it had a fairy standing on a hand mirror looking down at herself. I think there were other fairies in the background and it looked like maybe they were on a vanity. I would love to have it again and/or some of your other similar work. Thank you so much, Amanda

  12. Hi Amanda!
What you describe is indeed, “Mirror”. I will have to look through what I have and see if I still have one of those.

I will be launching a website with a “shop” in a week or so, and I would love for you to take a look around for other prints you might like.
Keep your eye on this blog, and watch for an announcement.
In the meantime, you may contact me through my email address, leslie at lesliehawes dot com

  13. Leslie, do you have any online workshops going in the future?

    Comment by Sioux — January 8, 2010 @ 10:43 pm

  14. Hi Sioux!
Sorry this sat so long in queue.
I have never done an online workshop, but assume you mean a drawing workshop.
I do post how-to, step-by-step drawing demonstrations on Leslie’s Art Blog that you might find of interest.
