Arrow

I will be creating a list here of the movies that have provided a significant impact on my life, or I just like the heck out of them.

I love these:

THX 1138    I think this is the scariest, most portentous movie ever made. Made in 1971. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THX_1138

Little Big Man    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Big_Man

The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Russians_Are_Coming,_the_Russians_Are_Coming

The Point          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Point%21  This was a made for TV movie. I saw it with the Dustin Hoffman narrator version. I love Arrow.

Animated Films and Pixar     http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixar   Iron Giant, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Giant     Monsters, Inc.,   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsters_Inc

Trainspotting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trainspotting_%28film%29

Get Shorty  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get_Shorty_%28film%29

Waking Ned Divine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waking_Ned

The Ruling Class with Peter O’Toole. O’Toole was great. Plot was fabulous. This movie didn’t recieve any attention. Too bad. I love it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ruling_Class

Edward Scissorhands I had no idea who this Johnny Depp guy was when I saw this movie. After I found out that I liked Johnny Depp, I still didn’t realize it was him played Scissorhands.

Rocky Horror Picture Show.  I am an earnest Tim Curry fan.

We rented 3 movies this weekend, Ratatouille, Shrek the Third, and Pirates of the Caribbean: World’s End.

Ratatouille was superb. I laughed at all the steroetypical characters, and my favorite part was the rat under the chef’s hat, pulling the hair as a steeering mechanism. I am a fan of Pixar. Funny…no, hilarious. Brilliant character animation, clever physical humor. When Remy fixes the soup, and floating above it, he adds the ingredients, the addition of the salt just put me in stitches. That is just one simple scene that tickled me. It was all that good.

Shrek the Third, Dreamworks, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrek_the_Third is visually delightful. I am a fool for animation. This is a tad more than animation. Lots of visual puns. Endearing characters. The donkey hissing like a cat was one of those moments that made me go goofy.

Pirates…At World’s End, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_of_the_Caribbean:_At_World%27s_End
I like Johnny Depp, but I think I like Geoffry Rush better. He reminds me of Cyril Rittchard, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyril_Ritchard ,who played Captain Hook in Pater Pan. I had a serious crush on Hook as a child.

Rented and watched SICKO, the Michael Moore film on our healthcare system in the USA.  http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?id=219
We must do better in this country.
Wouldn’t a universal system take care of our veterans?

Movies I Love To Hate:

Easy Rider  The ending. What was with that?

Prizzi’s Honor The ending. What was with that?

  1. I credit ruling class with my finally realizing I am an atheist: “When I pray, I find that I am talking to myself.”

It and Little Big Man are in my top ten, along with Lion in Winter (more O’Toole), One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Barfly, Nell, Bedazzled (original – Moore/Cook), Dr. Strangelove, Being There and The Big Chill.

  2. Hi Dood!
What are you doing poking about in these stacks? :)
I haven’t been in the “movie” section in a while!

We received a NetFlix trial subscription from a friend, and have just started to receive movies. Saw two decent ones so far…The Kite Runner, and Kit Kittredge.

    Talking to yourself, eh?
    I *never* do that :) :)
